Troop Treasurer

The unit treasurer is appointed by the committee chairman to handle troop funds, pay bills, maintain accounts, coordinate the annual Friends of Scouting campaign, and supervise fundraising.

Qualifications:

Is at least 21 years old, subscribes to the Declaration of Religious Principle, and agrees to abide by the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Possesses the moral, educational, and emotional qualities that the Boy Scouts of America deems necessary to afford positive leadership to youth. Is appointed by the Committee Chairman to serve as its official Scouting representative and is registered as an adult leader of the BSA other than the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster.

Responsibilities:

The Troop Treasurer’s responsibilities are to:

  • Help the Troop committee and Scoutmaster establish a sound financial program and lead in the preparation of the annual troop budget.for the troop troop budget plan.
  • Handles all troop funds.
  • Pay all bills on recommendation of the Scoutmaster and authorization of the Troop Committee.
  • Maintain checking and savings accounts as needed.
  • Supervise Scout Accounts.
  • Keep appropriate records related to troop funds.
  • Work with Chartering Coordinator to collect and record annual dues.
  • Work with Fund Raising Coordinator to account for monies earned during fund raisers and track scout account credits earned.
  • Work with Membership Coordinator to process registration of new scouts and adult leaders.
  • Work with Outdoor/Activity Coordinator to make necessary payments for camping/activity reservations.
  • Collect Summer Camp payments and remit funds to council office for camp reservations/payments in a timely manner.
  • Needs to attend most troop meetings.
  • Report to Troop Committee at each committee meeting.
